In this area write one of your five goals that will help you establish and achieve your vision. The goal must be detailed enough so that any reader can understand what you want to accomplish for that group.

            What:   Give a brief description of what you plan to accomplish through this goal that will help you to
                        make your vision a reality. Be as detailed as necessary so that any reader can understand
                        your ticket item.

         Where:    In what setting or at what event will you perform the tasks necessary to meet this goal?
          When:     What is the anticipated start and end date of this goal?

            How:    Describe the steps that you will use to complete this goal. Use details and descriptions that
                        reflect the "SMART" guidelines.

Why:    Tell, in your own words, why you are setting this goal and how it will help your vision statement to become a reality.

How verified:    Describe, in simple terms, how completion of this goal will be verified to your troop guide.

WRITING A TICKET IS EASY! ! !

1.    Read over your answers to the "Twenty Questions" that you were sent prior to the course.  Then do the following:

• Write down some words that describe your values -- the things that are important to you, the things that help set your priorities in life.
• Think about why you are in Scouting, what motivates you to remain involved in Scouting, and why you are at Wood Badge. Write down a long-term goal that you have for yourself in Scouting.

 

2.      Write down all your current Scouting positions.

• Circle the one position on which you want to write your Wood Badge ticket. When deciding which position to use, think about the positions in which you are trained and in which position you can most affect the lives of youth.
• Write down the one group that you are going to work with as you work your ticket. This group may be your pack, troop, crew, district, council, roundtable staff, etc. This group should relate to the Scouting position you just chose.

 

 3.    Write a description of what you would like to see your group (pack, troop, crew, district, or council) to look like eighteen months from now. This is your vision - your picture of future success - for your group.

 

4.   Make a list of five goals to help you achieve your vision within the next eighteen months. These action items are the things that you are going to do - your mission - in order to complete your ticket.

• One of these five goals must deal with diversity within your Scouting group. If you choose, one may involve a 360-Degree Assessment (presented on Day 5).
• Go over the five goals with your troop guide to make sure you are headed in the correct direction.
• Make sure that each goal meets the SMART test. Each goal must be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time, Based

5. Fill out a Wood Badge ticket worksheet for each of the five goals.

• Break down each of the five goals into the steps of how you will accomplish the goal over the next eighteen months. Each goal must define: Who will be involved, What will be done, Where it will be done, When it will be done, How it will be done, Why it is being done, and How it will be verified.
• Go over each Wood Badge ticket worksheet with your troop guide. Rewrite or revise as recommended.

Tips for Troop Guides in Ticket Counseling

VISION = mental image of future success

• Where do you see yourself and your group in the future?
• What would you like to see different about your group 18 months from now
• It is 18 months from now and you are leading the group of your dreams. Describe that group as if you are able to see it realistically before you.

 

MISSION = steps leading to realization of your vision

Ticket goals should be S.M.A.R.T.

SPECIFIC

• Does your goal describe a specific objective that will help realize your vision?
• Does the goal use action words to describe the intended performance? (Avoid abstract terms like know, believe, understand.)

MEASUREABLE

• What are the measurable indicators of success?
• Is the goal verifiable?

 

ATTAINABLE

• Is the goal realistic? (Avoid extremes in cost, time or manpower. Beware of goals referring to "ALL" or "EVERYONE.")
• Can it be achieved with the resources and time allowed?
• Is attainment of the goal in your control and not dependent on the actions of others?
• Is the attainment of this goal within your power?

RELEVANT

• Is the goal relevant to/within the responsibilities of your Scouting position?
• Does the goal benefit your group?
• Will the goal be a step toward the realization of your vision?

TIME-BASED

• When will the project be completed?
• Is there an identifiable point of completion?
• A goal might be worked over a specified span of time (For example, an action might be repeated four times within the next year.)

 

 

VALUES= behavior that supports the vision and mission

• Why are you at Wood Badge?
• What motivates you to stay involved in the Scouting program?
• What are the things that drive your priorities in life?
